Obesity is known as an overweight body condition which cause accumulation of excessive fat around body. This fat imbalance over body mass can cause unhealthy situation that may affect on body functions negatively.
Obesity signs and symptoms:
- risk of hypertension or high blood pressure
- skin irritation or other problems with skin
- increased sweating
- inability to cope with sudden physical activity
- feeling very tired every day
- back and joint pains
- low confidence and self esteem
Obesity is diagnosed by calculating BMI (Body Mass Index).
BMI shows the bearing of body weight to square height. The normal range of BMI for a fit person must be between 25-30 in usual condition. BMI is valuable just for adults and healthy people. Athletes, pregnant women and children or people with special disease are excluded from this calculation and in this case, they need a physician to diagnose their obesity if they need to.
A person with BMI over 30 usually is diagnosed with obesity.
Obesity is not known as a disease by many physicians by itself, although it can interfere with body function and increase the risk of some disease such as cardiovascular disease and heart attacks, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, depression and many other problems like pregnancy blockage.
Obesity has caused by different reasons and may be a result of excessive food intake, non-sufficient physical activities, genetics, interference of some drugs, some disease, hormone and mental disorders.
In 2015 600 million adults and 100 million children were obese in 195 countries in the world.
Though obesity was more common in richer rank of society in past centuries and illustrated as a sign of prosperity in some countries, these days is known as a civilization and machinery negative outcome on human life.
Obesity can be prevented and treated with diets, exercise, some appetite control medicines, change of life style, and even surgeries like liposuction as the last solution.
Diets ordered for obesity must contain less sugar and fat or slow burning foods and have more fibre and be proportional with daily physical activities and other body condition and age of the person.
Needed daily energy is different for each person and is based on their work level, age, health condition, gender, and body style. Usually males need more energy than women also obesity is more common between women whereas women body is ready to accumulate fat around thigh, breast, arms, waist and belly, so their diet might be different. Children are completely different and excluded from this dietary and need special diagnosis and diets.
